Un hombre empezó a esparcir rumores sobre uno de sus vecinos. En pocos días, todo el vecindario conocía los chismes, que no tardaron en llegar a oídos de la persona involucrada. Por supuesto ella se ofendió mucho y quedó muy dolida.
Con el tiempo, la persona que empezó a esparcir los rumores descubrió que lo que ella había dicho era completamente falso. Buscando resarcirse de su error, fue a ver a un sabio para preguntarle qué podía hacer para reparar el mal que había hecho.
El sabio respondió: Ve al mercado, compra una gallina y mátala. En el camino hacia tu casa, quítale todas las plumas y tíralas, una por una, a lo largo del camino.
Bastante soprendido por el consejo, pero sin ánimo de contrariar, hizo lo que el sabio le había pedido. Y al día siguiente volvió a ver al sabio y le preguntó: ¿qué hago ahora?
El sabio le pidió que hiciera lo siguiente: Ahora regresa por el camino que tomaste al ir del mercado a tu casa y junta todas las plumas que tiraste ayer para traérmelas a mí.
Siguiendo las recomendaciones, la persona tomó el mismo camino, pero quedó tremendamente descepcionada ya que se dio cuenta que el viento había volado todas las plumas, llevándolas quién sabe dónde. Apenas consiguió recuperar 3 plumas, y eso después de muchas horas de búsqueda.
Cuando regresó para ver al sabio para contarle su fracaso, él le dijo:
Ya ves como es sencillo tirar las plumas por el camino y casi imposible recuperarlas. Así es también con los rumores y los chismes.
No lleva mucho tiempo esparcirlos, pero una vez hecho, uno nunca puede deshacer totalmente el daño realizado”.
